First Taste: A Kinky First-in-Series Anthology by
Golden Angel
A great collection of books with a BDSM-like touch. Reviews of some of the books I read in this collection are below:
Dungeon Master by Golden Angel - 4*The Dungeon Master makes all of the rules and that is a core rule that cannot be challenged. They may be divorced, but Dungeon Master Gavin and his ex-wife Leah still scene together and so have a physical relationship. But realising that he actually wants his wife back he might be too late as when he goes to her house to declare his intentions she is about to go on a date. Having won her heart once he is prepared to do anything and everything to win her heart again.
I enjoyed this story which showed that he really had to show his emotional side and prove that he understood what he did in the past was wrong (and apologise for it) . As they did into it further it appears that maybe they both made mistakes and that underneath it all they actually still loved each other. Contains descriptions of BDSM behaviours and well as mature content. Easy to read and understand.
His Devil's Desire by Linzi Basset - 4*Rhone Greer co-owns Club Devil's Cove and is also an undercover agent but this time trouble is much closer and wrapped in a seductive package. Samantha Frazer is good at carving wood but is even better with her smart mouth. When Samantha lays eyes on him she is hooked as he is the most compelling Dom she has ever met. The question is, out of the two of them, who will bite and who will get devoured? It appears that a sinister plot is underfoot and everyone is a target. As ghosts from the past resurface, there is only one question to be asked. Who will live . . . who will die?
I enjoyed this book which was a rollercoaster ride of pleasure, and pain all intertwined into the mystery of who Samnatah's handler was, where her sister was and how she could solve the problem without killing any more innocent people. I enjoyed the way that the love/hate relationship between Samantha and Rhone developed. I also enjoyed the way such a strong and feisty woman was a natural submissive who found it hard to resist obeying when Rhone used his Dom's voice. The ending was definitely a cliffhanger and so you need to read the next book to know what happens next. Contains BDSM scenarios and mature content.
Sneaking In by V.T.Bonds - 2*Skylar is travelling alone even though her instincts are trying to warn her to be careful. Then she meets two relentless men with a devious plan which changes their three lives forever.
Wow - this was certainly a dark story which will shock you and even make you feel uncomfortable. This contains mature content and I cannot stress strongly enough to read the warning and skip it if you are unsure. Easy to read and understand.
** This story will read as if it is a brutal rape although it is actually a power exchange (although it is not clear as that until the end of the story).
His Sub by Ellis O. Day - 3*Terry is rich, attractive and a Dom - normally he sleeps with women who are hot, successful and into the BDSM lifestyle. Maggie is round, lush and a mess - completely innocent of anything that is not boring vanilla sex as she is a recently divorced, mother of three, not some wild, young woman.. They meet when she finds herself in La Petite Mort Club and Terry saves her from a bad situation in the club. It also becomes clear to Terry that she is a natural submissive and he decides to stop at nothing until he gets her. Will the rude stranger save her, or will he turn out to be even more dangerous than the others?
I liked that it started from a bad situation but started to turn into something good (even if it was from something which could be interpreted as Terry's selfishness). Maggie was determined to protect herself and her children even though she also appeared to be a bit of a wet weekend as it seemed obvious that her ex-husband had walked over her. I hope that Terry can take care of her, and her family, and do something to make her life better going forward. Contains BDSM life scenes and mature content. This is just the start and so I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next.
Grim's Little Reaper by Raisa Greywood - 2*Landscape architect Jolene Miller has been hired to restore the landscaping around a vintage Route 66 motel where she had met and married her late husband. Determined to have her way, she does not care what a brat she is, whether her employers can afford the time or cost, or even if they threaten to fire her. Zach Stratton is a retired Navy captain and has been called in to assist some old friends with their "brat problem" even though she is gorgeous, stubborn and exactly what he never knew he needed. He just needs to persuade her to take a chance on them both.
I struggled with this story and I think that was because it focused a lot on her and she was such a brat or complete an utter prima donna determined to have her way that it lost me. I did like Zach and the cool and calm way he handled her like a skittish horse. It was easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.
Negotiation by Delta James - 4*Michael Holmes is a respected DSI at Scotland Yard who has a little bit of celebrity due to his name and ability to solve crimes. Professor Rachel Moriarty was the subject of gossip five years ago when she lost her tenured professorship and so now is in London concentrating on building an exclusive tour business. Michael is intrigued by the woman who bears the last name of his literary rival. The veil between the worlds is weakening and something is trying to come through - it has found the key to unlocking the door and intends to use Rachel's innocence to re-enter this world. Can Holmes and Moriarty work together to finally put an end to the evil that was Jack the Ripper?
I have to say up front that my first thought was that anything with characters with the names Holmes and Moriarty was going to be corny and painful to read. Thankfully I was wrong and I loved the story from the paranormal nature of Holmes to the paranormal nature of the emergence of Jack the Ripper to the way that Holmes was a Dom who expected certain behaviour from Moriarty. There was enough drama and danger around the Jack the Ripper emergence as well as the more minor developing relationship between Holmes and Moriarty. Easy to read and understand, this story contained mature contents of a BDSM-like nature.
Sharing Shelby by Pepper North - 3*Shelby has always had fantasies of having two Daddies - when she is late after her lunch shift she doesn't just get a brilliant blue dress but her boss Jeremy Andrews as her Daddy. When he meets her he is just enchanted by her. Jeremy introduces her to the realities of being a Little and she soon settles into the world of punishment, reward and pleasing her Daddy. When she meets Jeremy's best friend can they both get used to the idea of her having them both as her Daddies?
It was a nice book with plenty of detail on what being a Little or a Daddy entails. I liked the emotions and thoughts that they all had to go through as part of becoming a three with two Daddies. Contains BDSM-like behaviour around the Daddy/Little side of things as well as some mature content. Easy to read and understand.
Elite by Elizabeth SaFleur - 4*
Congressman Jonathan Brond has a reputation as a playboy, but none of them actually suspect the truth that he is a Dom with BDSM tendencies. Christiana Snow is the daughter of a press correspondent and is very quiet and demure. However, she is desperate for something new and different and the Congressman is very attracted to her even though there is an age gap and he knows he should leave her alone. They shouldn’t have met. They shouldn’t be together. But neither of them can deny their dark desires. Some temptations are too delicious to refuse. One indecent offer. One weekend. That was all she agreed to submit to, but one explosive weekend is all it takes to spark a scandal that could destroy them both.
I enjoyed this story with the undeniable attraction between them, the stress of keeping it secret, the drama which then ensured and how they handled it and made sure that it went away. I also enjoyed the way that it ended and that they have a future together which was all that they wanted. I liked the focus on mental health in parts of the story and it was an enlightening introduction to the Washington political scene. Easy to read and understand it contains some BDSM-like behaviours as part of its mature content.
