Mackenzie “Mac” Jackson, a former Marine Recon, has spent years trying to bury the ghosts of his past missions. But when his old Fire Team is systematically targeted for elimination, those buried secrets resurface—dangerous enough that the government wants them erased along with everyone involved. Samuel Larson, a forest ranger searching for the Marines who once saved his life, unknowingly walks into the crosshairs. His quest for gratitude turns into a fight for survival when he collides with Mac’s world of betrayal and bloodshed. Mac, who intended to vanish into obscurity, now finds himself protecting Samuel against ruthless enemies. As the hunt intensifies and trust shatters, Mac must decide whether to die with his secrets—or strike back and make those hunting him pay in blood.
I loved this story of loyalty, betrayal, and survival, where the line between protector and predator blurs, and the only way out is to fight first. The story made it clear that Mac’s life as a Marine Recon was defined by missions erased from history and ghosts locked away. It explored how soldiers carry invisible scars—memories they can’t share, truths they can’t speak—and how burying the past doesn’t erase its consequences. Secrets become both a shield and a curse. The story contrasted innocence with violence, showing how ordinary lives are shattered when they intersect with hidden wars. The story ultimately balanced military thriller intensity with emotional vulnerability, asking whether love and loyalty can survive in a world where trust is lethal and secrets are currency. Intense emotions and feelings in this thrilling story. This was an MM story with mature content.
