My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Ru’s warmth and optimism clash with Jake’s gruff reserve, but as they spend snowbound days together, Jake’s icy defenses begin to melt. Decorating the farmhouse, sharing laughter, and witnessing the solstice sunrise side by side, their connection deepens into undeniable desire. When the storm clears, Jake must decide whether to retreat back into loneliness or embrace the unexpected love that has brought light, hope, and renewal into his life.
I loved this story that beautifully blended grumpy/sunshine romance with the symbolism of winter giving way to light — a metaphor for emotional rebirth. I liked how Jake’s self-imposed solitude was challenged by Ru’s openness and joy, Ru’s presence helped Jake confront his grief and rediscover warmth, the solstice sunrise symbolised rebirth, marking Jake’s emotional thaw and Jake faced the pivotal decision to remain closed off or embrace change and intimacy. Plenty of emotions and feelings between the two men. This was an MM story with mature content.
