Review: Sliding into Love by A.W. Scott 4 of 5 stars

Sliding into Love: An M/X Bellport Romance

Sliding into Love: An M/X Bellport Romance by A.W. Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Royce Bellport grew up nonbinary in a small Southern town, supported by family but scarred by cruelty—and by Kenneth Meyer, the boy who never defended them. Kenneth, quiet and closeted, admired Royce from afar but lacked the courage to speak up or admit his feelings. Years later, Kenneth has built a career, while Royce has never forgotten the pain of silence. When Royce’s brother unexpectedly bids to buy Kenneth’s baseball team, the two are forced back into each other’s lives. Working side by side, they confront old wounds, rekindle long-buried feelings, and begin to rediscover trust. What starts as business becomes a chance to rewrite their history—and perhaps finally begin the love story that was waiting all along.

I loved this story which was rich with themes of identity, regret, and the transformative power of second chances.  I loved that Royce’s journey as a nonbinary person in a small Southern town highlighted authenticity in the face of adversity. Their confidence and self-assurance was hard-won, shaped by scars of past cruelty. I liked that Kenneth’s failure to defend Royce years ago underscored silence as complicity. His regret became a central emotional conflict, showing how inaction can wound as deeply as cruelty. The story explored how guilt lingers, and how redemption requires not just an apology but action. This was an MX story with mature content.
