Most people can avoid the one who got away. Not Caelum. His is on every billboard in town. Star was Caelum’s first love, the one he thought he’d be with forever. But just a week after Caelum found the courage to ask him out, Star got the call that changed everything. He dropped out of college and flew across the country to star in his first made-for-TV movie. He promised to come back and finish his freshman year, but that role led to another and another. Their daily calls became weekly calls, became holiday calls, became silent. Now, Star is one of the biggest names in Hollywood. Caelum is happy for him—he found everything he dreamed of and more. But that doesn’t stop Caelum from thinking about all the could’ve beens. When a man barges into Caelum’s office and begs to be hidden, he recognises him instantly. It’s Star. Is this Caelum’s Christmas wish come true, or is he headed toward heartbreak once again?
I loved this story, which was layered with romance, fame, longing, and the possibility of redemption — but at its heart, it’s about whether love can survive time, distance, and ambition. I also loved that Caelum saw Star not just as a partner but as the person he was meant to be with forever, and that their fading communication — daily calls dwindling into silence — embodied the universal pain of watching intimacy dissolve. Sadly for Caelum, as the “one who got away”, Star became both a personal heartbreak and a public reminder, as his face was on billboards, making escape impossible. Several emotions and feelings were covered in this story, but they were not as in-depth as they could have been. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like DDLN dynamic.
