Moses “Mose” Morey has lived for twenty years as Gomillion’s quiet scapegoat, carrying the weight of a scandal he didn’t cause but chose to shoulder to protect the town’s secrets. Behind the bar, he’s built a life defined by loyalty and silence — until Rhett, his first love and the only man who ever truly knew him, returns for the town reunion. Their reunion rekindles old sparks through secret gin tastings and stolen swims at Yellow Branch Falls, but a painful misunderstanding and the Mayor’s ultimatum threaten to tear them apart once more. Now Mose faces a choice: continue protecting his family’s livelihood and the town’s fragile facade, or risk everything for the chance to reclaim love with the man who still owns his heart.
I loved this story of loyalty, secrecy, and the courage to choose love over fear. I also loved that the story asked if love is strong enough to break the chains of silence and sacrifice? It was about choosing authenticity over reputation, desire over duty, and truth over secrecy. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
