Remi’s longtime crush on Benson becomes something real when Benson returns to Darling, searching for himself and slowly letting Remi see his gentle, honest nature. As they grow close through quiet days, wildlife rehab, and Benson’s struggles with family and identity, love begins to bloom — and Remi realizes he’s not ready to lose the man he’s finally come to truly know.
I loved this story as Remi slowly, patiently built a friendship with Benson — the man he’d quietly adored for years — and helped him find the confidence to communicate openly with his family about his autism. The sensitivity around Benson’s autism was beautifully handled, especially the varied, realistic reactions when he disclosed it. I also loved that Benson had been part of the original ASL learning group for Remi years ago, making it easy for him to pick it back up and deepen their connection as their friendship shifted into something more. Their dynamic was a gentle surprise, full of care and quiet devotion, right down to Remi talking things through with August to make sure he supported Benson in the best way. A tender, emotional story about love growing slowly, honestly, and with real understanding. This was an MM story with mature content.
