Milo escapes to the Wisconsin woods for solitude but instead meets Calder — a massive, wary cryptid who slowly lets him in. Their attraction grows even as something dangerous stalks the forest, and Calder keeps placing himself between Milo and the threat. Milo knows he should leave, but he stays, because they want each other despite every risk.
This was a great nature‑rooted story, and I loved how Calder quietly taught Milo more about the forest — its animals, its plants, and the rhythms he’d lived with for so long. Their relationship grew beautifully as trust deepened, each step feeling natural and earned. The chipmunk family was adorable, and Mrs Alvarez added such warmth and grounding to the human side of Milo’s world. I really enjoyed how Milo and Calder found ways to compromise and blend their lives, even when their worlds seemed impossibly different. The emotions and feelings throughout were rich, clear, and easy to connect with. A tender, atmospheric romance full of heart, wilderness, and two men learning how to meet in the middle. This was an MM story with mature content.
