Review: Smokescreen by Elouise East 4 of 5 stars

Smokescreen (Love in Flames Book 2)

Smokescreen by Elouise East
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Firefighter Jason lives with the voice of his brother now as much as he did twenty years ago as all he can hear is “You’re a troublemaker. You’re worthless.”. Now he uses humour to hide any feelings he has and that is true when he stands half naked in front of the camera for a charity firefighter calendar. Photographer Harry tries to ignore Jason's wisecracking voice but after a couple of hours, his walls start splintering. However, Jason's job is a big flashing red warning sign for him. A chance meeting in a bar allows them to work off their attraction but it set off a chain of events that might start off as great fun but what happens when Jason's memories and Harry's anxiety reach their limit?

I loved this story with the two tortured souls who came together and found real happiness and the courage to face their demons to ensure they had a future together. Harry was just adorable and his demons just made me want to give him a huge hug. The book was carefully written so that the reader had a true appreciation of the past events and their impact on the present. I was thrilled when they found a support network in each other and their commitment to each other to get help in order to become better for themselves. Contains mature content of an MM relationship.
