My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Doreen now has an established reputation for solving cold cases and after a young woman is found murdered in her apartment the boyfriend comes to her asking for help to solve the case and clear his name. Doreen knows that she cannot look at active cases and as corporal Mack Moreau is back to only light duty work he has the time to make sure she does not cross that line although she often manages to find old cases that dovetail with his ongoing ones, giving her an exaggerated opinion of where her boundaries are. This case which appeared simple in fact crosses with an old case which was considered complete with the killer already free. By the time Doreen has worked it all out the word has changed for more than one person.
I enjoyed this story with the mystery of the current case and the old case all connected by the same people. I enjoyed Doreen's empathy for many of them and that she is now more cautious about who she backs and why. I loved that she had tried to stop one of the people from making the same mistake as before. Another case was solved by Doreen and yet another time when her animal friends have a part in saving her life too. Easy to read, feel and understand. I can't wait to find out what happens in her next case and whether she and Mack are both free to get any closer together.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
