Review: Paxton by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Paxton (SEALs of Honor Book 29)

Paxton by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Paxton is trying to get clearance from the physios to return to work after injury but he is currently refusing to sign the documents. When he phones he can hear gunfire killing the man he was talking to. Racing there he finds the gunman still there with a tale of blackmail before killing himself. Cherise hears the same conversation as Paxton from her office and races there to make sure he is ok as the police move in - but both of them standing together at the crime scene puts them both in danger as someone wants to keep the blackmail secret. As Paxton tries to keep them both safe while they unravel what was going on under the surface he realises just how personal the case is.

I enjoyed this story with the whodunnit around the mystery of the bribery around a signoff to return to work, the threats against Cherise and their growing relationship. I loved that they were able to find periods of time to decompress and relax among all of the drama and mystery. It was great to see their growing relationship as they became closer. Easy to read and understand, it was great to try and solve the case along with them. Contains a little mature content at the end.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
