When he was 12 Ezra escaped his prison and left a corpse behind taking only trauma with him. Now twenty-three he haunts the streets on the wrong side of the river and steals to survive and provide for the only person who cared for him. However, he is drawing the wrong kind of attention and threatened with the dangerous task of breaking into Sinro Enterprises, a multi-billion-dollar private military company, I soon find myself at the mercy of their ruthless, beautiful CEO, Cain Vincent. Ezra is attracted to him and when he is told about the hard drive he was supposed to steal he wants to be taken under his wing to stop the criminals that threatened him and spread so much evil throughout this city. But diving into mercenary work tends to summon demons. Cain is focused and never rests until a pretty little thief breaks into his high-rise and shatters what he’d come to believe was peace and he hesitates to pull the trigger for the first time. Cain has never been so captivated by another person. But he's been burned before and won’t tolerate betrayal. If this kid so much as blinks those long eyelashes wrong, he won’t hesitate to kill him.
This was a very dramatic story with the mystery of child trafficking all mixed into the story of Ezra and Cain and their relationship. The child trafficking plot had many layers and it was a source of distress to Ezra which Cain had to try and help him through. It was fascinating that they were both damaged and able to help each other through. I loved Cain's second-in-command Rev who could train Ezra and also help tire him out with exercise. There were a lot of raw emotions in this story as well as love and affection. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
