My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Weston “Major” Marian is gay and ran away at the age of seventeen and found a home in the Army where his fellow soldiers became family, giving purpose to his time in Vietnam. Then Liam “Doc” Wilde Doc Wilde joined his medevac crew. A night alone in the jungle after a helicopter crash forces them to rely on each other for survival sharing secrets cementing a bond between them. Doc is straight with family back in Texas. When their tours end Doc goes home to his family and Major continues to serve. Over time, their connection continues to grow and when, years later, an unexpected illness turns Doc's life upside down, Major is the first person he turns to for help.
It was lovely to read Doc and the Major's stories. The two men were devoted to each other and it was heartening to read all about the challenging times when they first met each other and the steadfast way that Major supported Doc and his family through rough times and change. I loved the children and the easy way Major was with them - an uncle and father to them. Their second wedding in California was very emotional for them and the reader too. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
