Review: Shadow King by S. Rodman 5 of 5 stars

Shadow King

Shadow King by S. Rodman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Felix summons Dis, a dangerous shadow king who once led a coup — though Dis did burn down his flat and ruin his emo records, so Felix feels justified. What he didn’t expect was how attractive, furious, and powerful Dis would be… or that the binding spell would trap him in Felix’s tiny Bristol flat until Felix decides otherwise. Now the ancient shadow king is stuck above a coffee shop, simmering with indignation while Felix cheerfully calls him Disney. It might be the worst idea Felix has ever had — or the best.

I loved this book with emo witch Felix and the chaotic, irresistible disaster of summoning Dis. Felix wanted a confrontation and maybe even a little payback after Dis wrecked his home and upended his life, but what he got instead was a slow‑burn connection that neither of them expected. Watching their feelings develop, bit by bit, was incredibly satisfying, especially since admitting those emotions took time for both of them. I also adored Brian/Bunny, the new character who added charm, humour, and intrigue. I can’t wait to see what happens with him in the next book. This story was packed with danger, drama, emotions, and feelings, all wrapped up in a magical, messy, wonderfully intense dynamic between Felix and Dis. A fantastic instalment in the series. This was an MM story with mature content.
