Review: The Firefighter's Familiar by TJ. Nichols 4 of 5 stars

The Firefighter's Familiar

The Firefighter's Familiar by T.J. Nichols
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Callum and Nas’s life is steady and happy until Callum rescues Rikar from a burning bar — and the kiss of life unexpectedly creates a familiar bond. Callum panics, because he already has a human fiancé and never wanted a mate. Rikar, a leopard seal shifter searching for belonging, is thrown into chaos again, and Nas must face the shock of discovering witches, shifters, and magic are real. Despite everything, he stays long enough to consider whether his heart might stretch to hold both his witch and his witch’s familiar.

The undeniable connection between all three of them is the heart of this story, and it’s especially striking because of how unusual Nas is in the way he handles the truth that witches and shifters are real, that his fiancé is a witch, and that there’s now a shifter familiar in their lives. His openness gives the whole relationship a refreshing twist. The external threat from others adds strong dramatic weight, filling the plot with danger and tension, and Nas steps into full involvement despite being human, which made his role feel even more meaningful. I loved the moments showcasing Callum's witch talents and Rikar’s shifter skills and the impact they had during the attacks. A story full of emotion and feeling, all easy to understand and connect with, especially as the trio navigate fear, loyalty, and the strange new shape of their bond. This was an MMM story with mature content
