My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Orion “Tooth” Templeton finally gets the mission that could take down the Shadow Board — and give him the revenge he’s waited for. But he’s forced to work with two witches: his fated mate, who’s straight and doesn’t want him, and a secretive prince who tempts him in dangerous ways. As secrets unravel and the danger rises, Orion must choose who he wants to stand with — the mate who won’t let him go, or the prince who can only offer a life lived in the shadows.
This instalment really highlighted the undeniable connection between Orion and his fated mate Jacob, even though things were rocky at first as Jacob insisted he didn’t want Orion, yet they still had to work together. Adding the Prince into the assignment only complicated everything, especially as he and Orion connected purely for physical relief and muddied the emotional waters. I loved how the story pushed forward the conflict with the Shadow Board, giving us a clearer understanding of who they are and why they’re such a threat. There was plenty of danger and drama as the team uncovered secrets and pieced together the truth. Amid all that, the emotional tension between the two mates grew beautifully, with Jacob slowly accepting the undeniable bond between him and Orion. And the intrigue surrounding the Prince and his family added a delicious extra layer to the story. This was an MM story with mature content.
