Review: Silenced in the Sunflowers by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Silenced in the Sunflowers (Lovely Lethal Gardens, #19)

Silenced in the Sunflowers by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Doreen knew her relationship with the police captain was on thin ground as her solving of cold cases had quadrupled his department's work. So when he approached her to solve a cold case for him as a personal favour she was surprised. Corporal Mack Moreau is slowly recovering from his injury when he learns of the new case Doreen is working on and although he would like to help there is not much to work from after 40 years. Although she knew eventually she will fail to solve a case she is determined for it not to be this one and so she worked doggedly on this one with her critters in tow and Mack watching and worrying about her.

I really enjoyed this story as it looked at the history of the police captain, how an old cold case could be solved and how Doreen's methods were very helpful as they were on the edge of what law enforcement can do. Contains lots of drama and was relieved to see that she solved it. Easy to read and understand. Contains lots of analysis of the thoughts and emotions of the people involved in this case.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Review: Theirs to Protect by Renee Rose 3 of 5 stars

Theirs to Protect (Double Dom, #2)

Theirs to Protect by Renee Rose
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Public defender Sloan didn't mean to start something after she bought two hot cops a coffee in Starbucks but her flirtation sparked their interest. They were both dominants and decided that with a pair of handcuffs they could all have fun and that if she surrendered to them then they would protect her. Then a stalker is in her home she will find out they are also there to protect her.

This was a nice novella that was quick and easy to read. I liked the concept of the two cops and the lawyer and the adventures they could have together in their relationship which actually made me feel a little sad that it was as short as it was - more could have been written I'm sure. I did like the way that they were dominant while also being so caring of her feelings and doubts. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.

Review: Barrell by Milly Taiden 4 of 5 stars

Barrel (Caged and Dangerous, #5)

Barrel by Milly Taiden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Barrel was imprisoned in the special jail for shifters for killing the people who had killed his family and is now freed in order to go on a mission to save Eva from people who have captured her to work for her in the sex trade. When he sees her he knows she is the light in his darkness and a reason for him to live - his bear will do anything to protect her - even if he has to go back to prison. Can they get the HEA they deserve at the end of this wild adventure?

I really enjoyed this story with the dramatic moments at the hands of evil people, the resourceful Eva and the determined Barrel who would do anything to protect her. When they are together their passion was the brightness that both of their lives needed. There was a lot of danger and drama in this story, as well as mature content as they experienced off-the-charts passion together. Easy to read and understand I was swept away in the story.

Review: Bought by Em Brown 2 of 5 stars

Bought (His For A Week, #1)

Bought by Em Brown
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Ben saw her and so bought her to be his for a week - a big mistake. She was supposed to be a plaything for a week but he can stop thinking about her and how he wants to devastate her. She might try and resist him, but she won't succeed. She is trying to be an uncover journalist exposing the darker elements of the Scarlet Auction, but it is not just her scoop that is on the line.

This was a strange story around these auctions where women can sell themselves for a week to rich spoilt men. I appreciated what she was trying to do, but she seemed to be on a hiding to nothing and I did wonder if she would be able to go through with it considering she has the one decent man among a bunch of abusive rich boys. It was easy to read and contained a lot of mature content with very high-level mentions of BDSM although nothing real.

Review: Slammer by Candice Gilmer 2 of 5 stars

Slammer (Most Wanted Alien Brides, #1)

Slammer by Candice Gilmer
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

The Intergalactic Dating Agency has mistaken a prison ship for their new clients and so two cyborgs jump at the chance to find their mates. One of those is Kolvin but when he meets his mate she is not what he expected. She is not from his dimension but his Craving wants her. Tina Craige is an astronomer from Earth and is finding it hard to accept that it is real. She now has 30 days to accept him as her mate. Can she accept him or will she leave him and go home?

A strange story. Her insistence that she had to go home was very tiresome and detracted from the story between her and him. It was a pleasant enough quick read but not much substance. Contains mature content.

Review: Forever by Ivy Nelson 4 of 5 stars

Forever (Diamond Doms #9)

Forever by Ivy Nelson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Security specialist, Dom and a member of Club Solitaire Russell Adler has just one major job while a fellow member and Dom Elijah Barrett is away on business - keep his wife Holly and her friend Gemma Livingston (Matthew's wife) safe from those who want to destroy the club. The problem for him is that Gemma is a gorgeous, irresistible pain who is determined to make his job impossible as she makes his Dom side twitch and he just cannot lose focus right now.

I enjoyed this conclusion to the series which definitely contained some surprises and "Oh" moments as more was revealed about the who and why of the club vendetta. I didn't see that everything would end that way but it was great with lots of danger and drama. I loved the part played by all the women forcing everything to come to a conclusion and the key role that Kendall played using her special skillset. I did struggle a bit with understanding some of the dynamics between Gemma and Russell probably because I have problems relating to the sadist and masochist side of things. Gemma also continued to be a bit irritating but at least Master Russell was able to control her quite a bit. I loved the dramatic finish and am very sad to reach the end of the series. Contains mature content and scenes of a BDSM nature.

Review: Flawless by Ivy Nelson 4 of 5 stars

Flawless (Diamond Doms, #8)

Flawless by Ivy Nelson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Matthew Bruce has a lot of secrets from his friends at Club Solitaire - he is secretly married to someone in UK nobility and yet he is in love with his wife's little sister. Plus there is the big secret - he is not dead like everyone thinks. Then he recently discovered that his grandfather was part of the international underground organisation that his friends have been tracking down. Then Kendall Livingston his wife's little sister tracks him down and so he now has to keep them both safe and Kendall out of his bed.

I enjoyed this story with the marriage of convenience and the problems around that which seriously messed up both of their lives. I loved sassy Kendall who was much more than she appeared and incredibly valuable in investigating the real problems that were facing the club and more importantly why. I did find Gemma a bit strange and her ability to say highly inappropriate things was actually quite nasty and so did detract from the story. It was easy to read but a little frustrating at times. Contains mature content with BDSM scenarios.

Review: Rough by Ivy Nelson 4 of 5 stars

Rough (Diamond Doms #7)

Rough by Ivy Nelson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To the wider world, Jax Fischer is a heroic military veteran who deserves medals and commendations that he doesn't like being talked about. To cattle heiress Dakota Hylander he is a coward who abandoned his responsibilities over a decade ago. Now he is older, hotter and unrecognisable to Dakota when he is at Club Solitaire at the grand opening, and so she ended up in his bed without knowing his name. When she discovers his identity they have an explosive fight and they agree to avoid each other and never speak of their night together again. Then after three more years, he has to work as a private investigator digging into her life and they can no longer avoid each other or the past. With amazing chemistry there is much more to his story that meets the eye, she just needs to decide if she wants to hear it.

I loved this seventh book in the series. It was great to hear more background about them both and realise that there was a lot of misinformation behind their history but it would take them both being open, prepared to listen and working together to get to the bottom of what happened in the past let alone what is happening in the present. I really enjoyed some of the intrigue and drama behind some of the events and it was great to see that progress was made no matter how small it might have seemed. I loved the power dynamic between Jax and Dakota both in and out of play. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content of a BDSM nature.

Review: Alien's Temptation by Tina Moss 3 of 5 stars

Alien's Temptation (Earth Brides & Alien Warriors, #3)

Alien's Temptation by Tina Moss
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Jane is the Captain of the moonbase around Earth and can handle any mission but is made to go on this one with Rhonar commander Tor who looks like he would either happily strangle or kiss her. They need to travel to a distant planet to find a rare substance that will save both of their races but they need to pass a series of increasingly sensual tests in order to get the substance they require. Can they put their hearts on the line?

I enjoyed this story with the push and pull between Jane and Tor, the attraction they were fighting against, the aliens they met and the trials on the planet to get the ore. I liked that they had trust in each other and that both of them had skills that the other could respect. I did find the trials a bit fantastical but to look at it another way it was in space so we have no idea of what it would really be like. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.

Review: The Director by Renee Rose 4 of 5 stars

The Director (Chicago Bratva, #1)

The Director by Renee Rose
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Successful attorney Lucy had one night of passion with Chicago Bratva boss Ravil and then discovered she was pregnant. Wanting to protect her unborn child from crime and corruption she keeps it a secret. When he discovers the truth he sets out to claim what is his but before that Lucy will need to be punished. His aim, at the end of sequestering her, is for her to be his bride and it will be much better for all if she can fall in love with him and do it willingly.

I really enjoyed this book with the battle of wills that she was always going to lose, it was all a case of how long it took for her to realise and start to compromise before a complete change in her attitude. I really enjoyed the way that he did everything he could to prepare for the baby and to take care of her and that she did start to appreciate it. I also loved the way that she finally realised that he wasn't the kind of criminal that she thought he was which I know was a great relief to her. Easy to read and feel the character's thoughts and emotions. Contains mature content.

Review: Maid For The Alien King: A SciFi Romance by Athena Storm by Tara Starr 4 of 5 stars

Maid For The Alien King: A SciFi Romance (Intergalactic Fated Mates Book 9)

Maid For The Alien King: A SciFi Romance by Athena Storm by Tara Starr
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Human Sorsha lives in a cave surviving and with very little memory of anything before as she is suffering from memory loss. Kiphian Talan is the son of a Merchant King and when out hunting he stumbles upon Sorsha hunting for food and then together they find orphan human children Detto and Epona. They soon start to feel like a family unit. Talan decides to take them back home with him to get Detto some medical attention but his father does not like humans and it goes badly.

I enjoyed this fated mate story although it appears as though Talan was nieve and that it was only when he grew a backbone that everything progressed rapidly. I enjoyed that he came to blows with his father and that they were able to find a way to be together. I did feel that the story could have appreciated a bit more detail but it was an ok read that was clear and easy to understand. Contains some mature content.

Review: Rocked by Livia Grant 4 of 5 stars

Rocked (Black Light, #1)

Rocked by Livia Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Samantha Stone goes to see the rock band Crushing Stones. It is fronted by her childhood best friend Jonah (Cash) Carter and after an absence of 7 years, she has decided it is time for answers as to why he deserted her. Jonah has always scanned the fans at gigs to try to find her and so when he sees Sami he freezes mid-song. Maybe tonight he can crush a stone? There are so many secrets and so much history that the question is whether they can find their way to the truth without destruction.

I enjoyed this story with the mystery of what happened in the past, the determination to punish each other, the stuttering way that they resolved their differences and the dramatic way that they resolved everything. Centre to all of this is Black Light and the trio of Jaxson, Chase and Emma trying to help and support them through it all. In the end, they were a sweet couple who loved each other deeply it was just a torturous route to get there. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content of a BDSM nature. There is also rape in the mix so be aware of that.

Review: Daddy Esquire by Olivia Fox 2 of 5 stars

Daddy Esquire (Silver Fox Daddy #1)

Daddy Esquire by Olivia Fox
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Belinda was clear about what she wanted - a Daddy Dom to take care of her as the farm and ranch boys her age were just ok for a roll in the hay and nothing more. So she uses FetLife to try and find someone even though she knew meeting someone via the internet was not always successful. As soon as she met Arthur who was 27 years older than her she realises that he is everything and more from his online pictures. He will definitely teach her to call him Daddy and will also teach her to be a very badly behaved girl.

This was a fast-paced story that focused on their doubts based on past disappointments and how they could move past them. I did find some of the things that they did a bit bizarre and the ending was a little abrupt with the move to a later time. I also had some outstanding questions as to what she was doing - still a PA or writing? Easy to read. Contains a lot of mature content including a BDSM DDLG relationship.

Review: Her Alien Ex-Con by Michele Mills 3 of 5 stars

Her Alien Ex-Con (Monster Bites #4)

Her Alien Ex-Con by Michele Mills
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Aliyah has escaped from her father and has arrived on the Omega 9 space station at the same time as a prison transfer. She finds herself handcuffed to a tall satanic looking man and finds herself on the run with him. He is bossy, throws flash flames, can party all night, sin and shoot a blaster well - plus his kiss is just wow. Then they discover that the Hyrrokin mafia is after her but she has no idea why. She should probably be planning her escape, but he appears to have captured her heart too.

I enjoyed this story which definitely ran on from the previous one in the series. I liked their chemistry which was off the charts and I also liked that he did what he could to keep her nearby. I loved the ending which was great and closed that chapter nicely. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.

Alien's Mate (Earth Brides & Alien Warriors, #2)

Alien's Mate by Tina Moss
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Human Sage is one of Earth's top engineers and while out fixing something an explosion at the moonbase has her careering into space but sexy Rhonar warrior Brok pulls her onto his shop and saves her just before they are sucked through a wormhole and they land onto an unknown planet. Relying on each other to survive she needs to break down Brok's walls as the chemistry between them is about to explode. She also is wondering if her sister and best friend were caught in the blast that affected them. Brok's priority is protecting her - she is his mate he just needs to have the chance to tell her and take it further. Can they both get home to warn everyone about the threat from the aggressors with the wormholes that affected them?

I quite enjoyed this story which was probably because it focused a lot on their dilemma on the new planet and their struggle to get home. I liked that they were able to sort out their cultural differences and that they were able to complete their mate bond. It was great to see how good they could be once they were more able to work together. Contains some mature content.

Paxton (SEALs of Honor Book 29)

Paxton by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Paxton is trying to get clearance from the physios to return to work after injury but he is currently refusing to sign the documents. When he phones he can hear gunfire killing the man he was talking to. Racing there he finds the gunman still there with a tale of blackmail before killing himself. Cherise hears the same conversation as Paxton from her office and races there to make sure he is ok as the police move in - but both of them standing together at the crime scene puts them both in danger as someone wants to keep the blackmail secret. As Paxton tries to keep them both safe while they unravel what was going on under the surface he realises just how personal the case is.

I enjoyed this story with the whodunnit around the mystery of the bribery around a signoff to return to work, the threats against Cherise and their growing relationship. I loved that they were able to find periods of time to decompress and relax among all of the drama and mystery. It was great to see their growing relationship as they became closer. Easy to read and understand, it was great to try and solve the case along with them. Contains a little mature content at the end.

Review: Exposed by Jennifer Bene 5 of 5 stars

Exposed (Black Light #2)

Exposed by Jennifer Bene
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Maddie O'Neill always wanted to be a reporter but has spent the last two years in Washington DC working on a daily coupon paper. If she can get a great story she can get a job as a reporter at The Washington Post. Maddie spends her nights inside Runway looking at why the elite are showing up at the hottest new club in the city. Then she stumbles into a secret BDSM club called Black Light under the floors and into the arms of Thomas Hathaway who is a gorgeous dominant who is more than willing to take Maddie on as his submissive. Maddie finds herself caught in a web of lies with Thomas who is the hottest congressman in the House as she starts to realise that she is going to have to make a choice - follow her dreams or her heart.

This was definitely an emotive story as we had Maddie struggling to find a big story to follow her dreams to be a reporter mixed into the story of her meeting Thomas and the way they discovered that she was a submissive and also a masochist who really enjoyed pain. When she made the right decision and decided to follow her heart the club owner knew exactly what to do to fix everything between Maddie and Thomas and I will admit to crying at times as they fell apart and then worked through the lies and reconciliation. Easy to read and feel the thoughts and emotions of the characters. Contains mature content of a BDSM nature involving whips and canes.

Flame on You (Paranormal Dating Agency, #58)

Flame on You by Milly Taiden
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Finn Levine is an alpha dragon and is happy living his life moving from one adventure to another - the last thing he wants is a mate to tie him down. Human Willa Prentice is a travel blogger and doesn't need a permanent address or a man to be happy as she is just a free spirit. With her trusty duffel called Stu she feels that it is better to be free to climb a cliff than let a man in. Then Gerr Wilder introduces Finn to Willa at a party and everything changes as the pair of adventure-loving fated mates go on an adventure together. However, they need to survive long enough to learn that falling in love with each other is the best adventure.

I enjoyed this story with them both so reticent, then Finn accepted what was happening between them only for Willa to be even more hesitant. Of course, there has to be some danger to threaten one or both of them and it was great that they were able to rescue and give a chance to their relationship which they were never going to be able to avoid. I loved how he tried so hard to be respectful and yet still failed when he let his emotions take control. Easy to read and understand. Contains some mature content.

Billionaire businessman Hunter Novak has a mission to tear everything away from the people who abandoned him as a child and make it his own. He has so much in Las Vegas and around the world, but there is one more thing he wants and he is backing popstar Skylar Cameron in order to get that. He is almost there and then he meets passionate and incredibly sexy Trinity Shaw and it is almost impossible to resist her. But if he lets her into his bed, then she will be in his heart and that will ruin everything.

This was yet another dramatic story as another of the doms from Solitaire met a woman who he just could not keep out of his head and heart. I liked the jeopardy of the Skylar situation and the way that there were a lot of layers of deceit at play that was not expected from people that were also not expected to be sources of those layers. Christine knew that Othim was her fated mate but he was in one of the chambers being kept alive. Even though life is hard in the bunker with the different factions and the limited food supply, she is determined to get him out and so reads books until she knows how to open to release him. Then she starts to realise some of the implications as he goes from medical crisis to medical crisis before she has to deal with the Black Market to get a certain piece of equipment to save his life.

Whilst I love the women meeting their Zmaj mates I did struggle a bit with this one as I felt that Christine was so determined to no longer be alone and desperate for her to have a mate that she risked his life to remove him from the chamber without any thought or preparation of what was going to happen to him. Her desperation for everyone to help save him was also another example of her selfishness. I did like Othim and I loved the way he was able to communicate with the other soldiers from his team. Sammy Connelly is working as a CNN Correspondent and his first assignment is in Sarajevo in February 1992. He is also looking forward to the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in London for which he has two tickets. As tensions arise in Sarajevo and his job gets complicated his need for a distraction is hotel clerk Mustafa who helps him with a health scare as well as a necessary relief from the situation. When Mustafa ends up in the hospital as a casualty of war, Sammy knows he's got to get him to London, and home to Atlanta, if Mustafa will go. When they are in London they experience the largest celebrity concert of their time. Can they get the future together that they want and need?

I loved this story which seamlessly wove a love story between Sammy and Mustafa with the start and escalation of the Bosnian war. The concert was a nice touch and it went well with the story of the two men starting out on a new path for their future. It was great to see that they had a happy ever after. Duric (Trident Alliance Mail Order Brides #2)

Duric by Athena Storm
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Human Daphne Moebius studied hard and worked on her career, and then as a member of the Interstellar Human Confederation, she is shipped off to another world to help some aliens rid the galaxy of evil. But something goes wrong and the ship she was travelling on is destroyed. Vakutan warrior Duric is stranded on a remote moon with Daphne and they have to survive the worst of the Ataxian Coalition until help arrives to collect them. As they have adventures and save each other's lives, they also find that they struggle to keep apart from each other - the question is whether it is just physical or if love plays a part?

I quite liked this story which had the drama of their crash, their survival, their burgeoning relationship and their conversation into something much more. I liked the ending where he made sure that they were together although I did find it a little disturbing that he made some assumptions that she would agree to what he had decided. I did find his crash onto the moon very reckless and confusing how the loss of his ship and crew did not count against him. Easy to read and contains mature content.

Review: Ice by Ivy Nelson 4 of 5 stars

Ice (Diamond Doms #5)

Ice by Ivy Nelson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Samuel Carter has prioritised one mission above everything else - taking down the terrorist organisation that destroyed his family. Now in order to pursue that he has walked away from Solitaire the home that allowed him to satisfy his carnal needs while meeting his friends who are also his family. Erin Green helped get Annette Ware elected to the Senate and as a reward is now her chief of staff. The first thing is to launch an investigation into an elite military unit operating in secret. That task leads her to Samuel, the hot as sin former marine with a penchant for Brioni suits - can she do her job and explore this new attraction? Dangerous threats and the underbelly of Washington politics threaten to take the choice away and destroy them both. They must work together to survive.

I really enjoyed this story which had the intense attraction between Samuel and Erin, the old enemies of Solitaire trying to bring Samuel down, the attacks on Erin and their sexual discovery of each other. The way that the Solitaire family all supported the couple was a delight to see as they did what they could to help them with the attacks, the political situation and Erin's BDSM questions. I enjoyed his ineptitude at communication and having a relationship which was a little at odds with his skills as a marine. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content some of which is of a BDSM nature.

Review: Quinn and the Queller by Honey Phillips 3 of 5 stars

Quinn and the Queller (Alien Abduction #17)

Quinn and the Queller by Honey Phillips
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Quinn was with two other friends when they were abducted by aliens and ended up on a distant planet. When her two friends disappear she has to accept that she will always be alone. When she is sold to a terrifying alien warrior she expects the worst but unexpectedly finds that she is given unexpected kindness. Then he carries her off to his forbidding mansion she wonders if she will ever find her way back to her friends. When Dhar was forced to leave his homeworld he cut himself off from everything and everyone and instead pursued a successful career as a gladiator. This gave him the wealth to buy everything that he wants including solitude, but when he is gifted a beautiful and delicate female who has gifted warmth to his existence. Determined to keep her, the more time he spends with her the more he also wants to please her but if he gives her want she most wants will he remain alone forever?

I enjoyed this story which closed off the three related stories of friends Olivia, Pandora and Quinn. Her negative view of her worth was quite depressing and so it was great to see that the Queller started off being incredibly respectful of her and her wishes. I loved her determination and care for those near to her as well as her brazen attempts to break Dhar's avoidance of her in a more intimate way. The story took on a dramatic storyline and it was great to see that she was not afraid of him to use his violent nature to defend her and rescue her. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.

Review: Pandora and the Prisoner by Honey Phillips 3 of 5 stars

Pandora and the Prisoner (Alien Abduction #16)

Pandora and the Prisoner by Honey Phillips
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Pandora likes an orderly life just like the books in her library, but when she and two of her friends are abducted by aliens and their spaceship crashes life is suddenly very different. When she is separated from them she finds it hard to communicate with the huge alien warrior who captured her. Boxtar was betrayed in the past and framed for a crime he did not commit and so has no use for rules But Pandora awakens a part of him that he thought to be long dead and is determined to protect her. Can the prisoner be the hero that she needs?

I liked this story with the academic Pandora and the rogue Boxtar who was actually very knowledgeable and intelligent when he allowed himself to show that. I loved the way that she grew to know and care for him and the way that her skills and knowledge came to the fore and that it helped them both (as well as the local community). Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.

FREE BOOK - False Start by Piper Rayne

False Start by Piper Rayne is now live and available for FREE!

The start of Lee Burrows and I was a college girls' biggest fantasy.

Campus' most popular guy, the starting quarterback, the same guy I've crushed on forever, notices me—the quiet introvert.

Although, he never would've noticed me if he didn't need my help passing our biology class. I didn't think I had a chance with him until he started flirting with me and asking me questions like, "Who was the guy you were talking to?" and "Do you have a boyfriend?"

It took a few tutoring sessions before we ditched the library to "study" at Lee's apartment.

It was a fantasy come true until I found out the truth and vowed that Lee Burrows would never get another chance with me again.

NOTE: This is the prequel to the Kingsmen Football Starts series. You do not have to read it to enjoy, You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows.
