Review: Operation: Burlesque by Michelle Fox 3 of 5 stars

Operation: Burlesque

Operation: Burlesque by Michelle Fox
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ruby Palmer is an aspiring costume designer who prefers to work in the background. She gets a job as the seamstress for steamy Cirque D’Amour but she ends up having to go into the spotlight and handsome magician Blake Cannon on the last night of the season won't take no for an answer either. After one unforgettable night together he is gone and Ruby finds her hopes of a future dashed. To make matters worse there is trouble at the door and he seems to be tangled up in dangerous lies. Before she knows it she is sucked into a dangerous underworld filled with sleight of hand and exotic destinations which will kill her if they can. Can they ever have a future?

I enjoyed this story which had the drama of their relationship, the underground world that he was mixed in that she was dragged into, and her friendship with Lilli. I loved that she learnt to appreciate her curves and that with Blake's attention to her. I was thrilled with the way the story ended and that everything worked out in a way that was secure and pleasing for them all. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.

Review: Reborn: Myra by Michelle Fox 3 of 5 stars

Reborn: Myra (Blood Courtesans)Reborn: Myra by Michelle Fox
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In order to pay for treatment for her Mum as well as keep a roof over their heads, Myra has to become a Blood Courtesan in order to get money. Before she knows it she is sharing a bed with Vampire Kristos Anastos. Then bullets start flying and they are actually after her not Kristos - can everyone be kept safe? A nice short story but it was a bit lame in places and I wish Myra was a bit more intelligent.

Review: Burning for Him by Michelle Fox 4 of 5 stars

Burning for Him Burning for Him by Michelle Fox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Selena Connor's fiance stole her life savings and she has crushing debts. Add to that her boss is doing his best to harass her into his bed as persistently as he can. So when she receives a magic locket which brings demon Khan to her for just three nights to ravish her body it is a welcome distraction. His dark magic unlocks some deep secrets from her body and heart and so the burning desire she has for him allows him to bend her to his will and erase all of her real-world cares. Sadly the locket only binds him for the three nights for some soul-searing pleasure and just as Selina realises that she just cannot live without him demon Khan disappears and she has to cope with reality. Her boss has framed her to take the fall for some serious crimes that he has committed and if she does not give in to his advances now she will end up in jail. With nothing left to lose Selina takes a leap of faith on the one man she wants to truly possess her if only she is the one woman to free him.

I really enjoyed this novella which was definitely in the erotic classification. I liked the premise of the story around Selina and three fronts - Khan, her ex-fiance and her boss. For such a clever woman who was obviously great at her work, she definitely had issues with her management of relationships with people. Very enjoyable and I loved the way the story ended. Contains a lot of explicit sexual content which involves a lot of BDSM.

Review: Dragon Burning Bright by Michelle Fox 5 of 5 stars

Dragon Burning BrightDragon Burning Bright by Michelle Fox

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Adara Brenton's family has a genetic predisposition to spontaneous human combustion and she has recently started emitting fireballs - the latest one at her now ex-job so she now needs to find another job as well as find a way to control what is happening to her. Dragon Endre Felman has lived deep inside a mountain for centuries while adding to his hoard and looking for his mate. Meeting Adara before it is too late is a source of hope for him but he still has to convince her that dragons are real and that they are mates destined to be together. It is the only way to keep her alive as she goes through her own transformation but she is fighting him all the way as she refuses to feel and believe what he knows is true. In the end, they may both burn to ash because no dragon lives forever without love.

I loved this story which had the necessary elements of danger, suspense, drama and love all rolled together into a unique story focussed around Adara and Endre. I could definitely sympathise with Adara as she struggled to grasp a new concept that she had to understand and follow as quickly as possible as well as learn to trust and ultimately love a man she had only recently met. I could feel and empathise with them both as I read this book. Definitely recommended.

Review: Refrain: A Vampire Blood Courtesan Romance by Susan Griscom by Michelle Fox 4 of 5 stars

Refrain: A Vampire Blood Courtesan Romance Refrain: A Vampire Blood Courtesan Romance by Susan Griscom by
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Neriza's life went into a tailspin when a car accident leaves her with no parents, a sister who is severely injured and completely poverty stricken. Then she sees an advert in the paper and a solution seems clear to her - become a Blood Courtesan. However her first client is her teen idol pop star Lyric Rivers and bizarrely he doesn't want anything to do with her after paying for her. Then things take a turn for the worst when her father's misdeeds come to haunt her putting them all in danger. Can she solve the problem left my her Dad, make Lyric want her and keep her heart intact?

This is a great addition to the Blood Courtesans series of books and had a few really great twists in the story that you won't see coming (I certainly didn't). I loved the way it built up and the anticipation of how great things could and hopefully would be between Neriza and Lyric. Well told and described it was easy to pick up the thoughts and emotions of the characters involved in the story and get involved in their story.

Review: Killer Stakes by Michelle Fox 5 of 5 stars

Killer Stakes Killer Stakes by Michelle Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amelia Larson works for the FBI in a special department for metaphysicals and is currently on medical leave following the end of her last case. When serial killers hit her area she feels she has to come off leave to use her psychic abilities to track them down. Add to that her life is more than a little complicated - she is bonded to a vampire who is annoying the hell out of her, she has boyfriend problems so when her DNA also becomes an intense focus life becomes completely chaotic.

The book contains a lot of action with twists and turns all the way through. You might think you understand the plot but then it changes direction and you get a whole new set of surprises. I loved some of the detail in the story that helped to build a great book that kept me addicted from the start to the finish. It was well written and I liked the way you felt involved in the emotions she was feeling as she discovered a lot of new things around both the different races, her own history and who was her friend and who was not. You will not regret getting into this great series.

Rare Stakes (Urban Fantasy) Rare Stakes (Urban Fantasy) by Michelle Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amelia (Mel) Larson is an FBI agent with an additional skill - she is a psychic which she uses to help solve cases. Her success rate is impressive but her latest case may well turn out to be her hardest - a Dracula copycat that pulls her into an underworld where not every killer is human.

I loved this story. Mel was strong and feisty while undeniably human with had real emotions and feelings. I enjoyed the story and how she coped and struggled with the non-human characters she encountered. Well told and everything was very clear and easy to feel and understand.

Review: Kissed by Fire A Zodiac Shifters Paranormal Romance

Kissed by Fire A Zodiac Shifters Paranormal Romance Kissed by Fire A Zodiac Shifters Paranormal Romance by Michelle Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

Mermaid Mila is caught in the supernatural slave trade and needs saving and some allies but Niall MacTeine (one of the cursed dragon brothers in Scotland) promises her undying love after she gives him the 'kiss of the sea' and he realises she is 'the one'. To break the curse that locks him in a human form Mila is going to trust him and Niall is going to have to prove to her that he is worth it.

I LOVED this story and found that I was completely enthralled by this tale of mermaids, dragons and slave traders. The love story between Mila and Niall was nicely written and I could feel their emotions and concerns. Everything was well described and the story ending was a nice surprise.

Review: A Cougar's Claim by Michelle Fox 5 of 5 stars

A Cougar's Claim A Cougar's Claim by Michelle Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kit is trying to find his cousin Jase in Vegas when he find a dirty shirt in Jase's room with the smell all over it of Kit's mate Rhiannon. Ok he hasn't see her for 15 years (when he panicked and ran away from her), but now not only does he want to find Jase, but he wants to find her too.

Rhiannon has moved on and is now a burlesque dancer in Vegas. She feels that if they really were mates that he would not have been able to run away from her, so she is not prepared to countenance any interaction with Kit. However she borrowed money from a mob boss which Jase has disappeared with, so she desperately needs to find him too (preferably before the mob boss's crew find her).

Lovely story about youth, hurt feelings, and whether it is possible to have what you want/need no matter what. I really enjoyed this story. I could definitely feel the pain and emotions from the characters and was definitely wishing for a happy ending.

Review: Wanted: Corynne by Kristen Strassel and Michelle Fox 4 of 5 stars

Wanted: Corynne Wanted: Corynne by Kristen Strassel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Andrea Davis/Corynne has a secret - she has a power that she cannot control. All she knows is that she either sees or causes bad things to happen to other people. She is wanted by the police and is on the run - her only hope is to become a Blood Courtesan and get turned into a vampire.

Nash is a 600+ year old vampire and is head of the local vampire group in New York. He goes to the latest auction of blood courtesans and is attracted to the power he senses in Corynne - so he bids for her and has to pay the maximum to get her.

I nice story which I enjoyed but felt it did miss a few things - Nash was far too gentle with Corynne considering what he was and what he paid, Oscar was not very well explored, and I was a little confused by the I won't turn her and then the abrupt change in attitude.

Review: Bitten: Nova: Blood Courtesans by Kim Faulks and Michelle Fox 2 of 5 stars

Bitten: Nova: Blood Courtesans Bitten: Nova: Blood Courtesans by Kim Faulks
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Nova and Jared were perfect together at high school but since things have been going downhill. She works all day to keep them both, he lies and cheats. Nova starts to wake up when she comes home to find a vampire trying to claim on a debt owed by Jared. No matter what she does she does not have the money to clear this debt so she goes to a vampire hangout Bitten to try to plead her case for more time to clear the debt. There she comes across Kol who tells her to go home and leave as it's dangerous for her to be there.

Jared comes up with a perfect solution to all there problems with Nova becoming a Blood Courtesan for 1 night telling the virgin Nova it is only giving blood. Things deteriorate from that point.

Whilst I thought the writing was ok I did struggle with this book and did not enjoy it compared to other books in the series. It seemed a bit disjointed and the ending came rather fast and was missing some of the description of what was happening and why.

Review: Marked: Winter: Blood Courtesans by Gwen Knight and Michelle Fox 5 of 5 stars

Marked: Winter: Blood Courtesans Marked: Winter: Blood Courtesans by Gwen Knight
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Coming from a family of vampire slayers Winter is never going to become a Blood Courtesan until her best friend Tessa (who was a Blood Courtesan) makes some stupid choices and ends up in debt to a really nasty vampire who is threatening her. Winter wants to involve her family but Tessa begs her not to. So Tessa ends up becoming a Blood Courtesan to get the money to clear the debt quickly. Ethan Rune is a vampire who never uses Blood Courtesans but is at their charity auction purely for business reasons. Upon seeing Winter he is completely captivated and is the highest bidder of the evening for any woman in order to get Winter and spend time with her.

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was a great story of good versus evil with an underlying tale of great love. The author was great in her descriptions of the people and places, the situations, the thoughts and motivations and the emotions involved. Recommended - give this book a try.
