Review: Magically Fated by Milly Taiden by Kala Aster 4 of 5 stars

Magically Fated

Magically Fated by Milly Taiden by Kala Aster
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great value complete trilogy with a bonus novella at the end. Three gods descend from Olympus to Earth and meet the Fates who are guarding the gates. This trilogy is the story of their meeting, a plot to open the gates for travel at will and the battle to stop that. Along the way, the gods get to know the Fates and learn to love them.

#1 Marked by War - 4*

Alyssa is one of the three Fates who is responsible for guarding the gates of Olympus and is bored as nothing has happened for what feels like forever. So when three gods sneak onto Earth she is spoiling for a fight with them. However, when she encounters them she meets her match in Ares the God of War and finds it impossible to keep her mind or hands off him. When Ares arrives on Earth, what he really wants is a taste of the sassy Fate, but he finds that not only does she have magic to rival him but she threatens to conquer his heart too. But then mysterious and powerful magic attacks and she suddenly needs all the help she can get to keep them all alive and Ares decides he'll give everything he has to keep her from diving into battle to her death even if it has to be his life. Can they all survive?

I enjoyed this story which covered how they decided to come to Earth and how Ares met Alyssa. She really was a sassy and yet fiery personality who needed to learn how to control herself and her powers. It was wonderful to see Ares help her with that and that they were well matched with their aggressiveness and tendency to leap in. Well written and easy to read, feel and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

#2 Chosen by the Devil - 4*

Daphne is the youngest of the three Fates guarding the Gates of Crossing and as she came into her powers late she competes with the other two through knowledge. Therefore it is not a surprise that she would find herself drawn to thoughtful and intellectual Hades but retreating into her scrolls does not work to snuff out her raging desires for the god. Hades is desperate to resist the unsettling feelings he has for Daphne especially when they have to go on a journey together to uncover some new information. While working together he can see that there is far more to her than she knows herself and he is determined to help her to harness the full potential of her powers even though he is losing his heart to her at the same time. When they learn that Zeus has declared the three gods who came to Earth and the three Fates as enemies and that their punishment will be death they have to all band together to come up with a plan. Can Daphne and Hades survive the wrath of the most powerful god or will their love be extinguished before it has even begun?

I enjoyed this story which showed progress being made to work out who was responsible for the attack on the Fates and the gods who were becoming increasingly involved with them. I enjoyed the journey and the fact that they had to learn to work together in order to make good progress. It was interesting when Hades was helping Daphne and it almost gave me a Ghost pottery throwing vibe as he worked with her. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

#3 Favored by Death - 4*

Moros is the God of Doom and Fate and came through to Earth with Ares and Hades because he was bored, and so rashly said that he does not care if Chronos unleashes chaos on Earth. But Fate Sophie is making him question is he should go back to Olympus at all as he would rather be on earth with her, not that she would agree with that viewpoint! Sophia finds his self-centred attitude the exact thing that makes Sophia mad. She doesn't trust any of the gods as they only care about power and pleasure, not humans nor the Fates who protect them. Her sisters may have fallen for gods but that is NOT something she is prepared to allow happen no matter how sexy Moros is. They are both going to have to place their differences aside and work together because Chronos wants to kill the Fates and reabsorb their power and Zeus is still out to punish the three gods who broke his rules. Can they stand firm and get Zeus to realise who the real bad guy is and can these gods find a way to be with the Fates who they love?

I enjoyed this dramatic conclusion to the series where there were finally sparks between Moros and Sophia as she was attacked by Chronos and even though she was gravely injured Moros did everything he was able to to save her. While limited Sophia proved to still be strong enough to be the leader of the Fates as well as strong enough to take on any of the Gods (including Zeus). I loved the way that the three gods cared for the Fate they were in love with, in a supportive, not patronising way. Easy to read and understand plus it was great to experience slightly more gods during the final confrontation. Contains explicit sexual content.

Bonus Novella

This looks at a moment in their lives after they settle together on Earth.
