Review: Fighting Myself by Shae Michaels 4 of 5 stars

Fighting Myself (Fighting for Love)

Fighting Myself by Shae Michaels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Emmit Novak had tried hard his whole life to be different from his siblings and as they were all gay he tried to hold onto a straight identity. When life gets difficult and he takes the job as the receptionist at the LGBTQ-friendly Knockout Gym new people become part of his life. MMA fighter and mentor Alfie Diamond, has Emmit questioning whether it’s time to stop fighting his own heart and desires. Alfie had learnt that he should settle for not finding or deserving anyone special in his life until he met Emmit when he won’t let anything stand in his way; not his demons, an unexpected reminder of his troubled youth, or even Emmit’s preconceptions. Not when Alfie has the chance to win the most important fight of his life - winning Emmit’s heart.

I enjoyed this story with the two sides of emotional struggles- the one for Emmit on his sexual identity and the other for Alfie and his self-worth and history. Lots of emotions and sharing of thoughts and feelings in this story. I was thrilled when eventually they were able to settle into their identities and find the happiness they deserved together. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
