Review: Loose Connection by Ali Ryecart 3 of 5 stars

Loose Connection (Urban Love, #1)

Loose Connection by Ali Ryecart
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Plumber Matt Connell struggles with his rejection from his working-class family as well as the loss of the one who was the centre of his world. He also struggles with accepting his true self. When an explosive confrontation leads to exposure, Matt is faced with a stark and terrifying choice: live his life in denial or strive to forge a new path for himself as an out gay man. Rick Taylor has lived a life of privilege and has loads of self-confidence. Matt and Rick should never have met let alone fallen in love, so when their worlds collide one freezing winter’s day their lives are changed forever. Will they reach for the stars, or will they come crashing down to earth?

This had the makings of a really sweet story but it got bogged down into discussions about privilege, class and Matt repressing his sexuality at times. There was too much angst and too many arguments and at one point the story completely lost me as I stopped paying attention anymore. Easy to read. This is an MM story with mature content.
