Victor was depressed as he had a body which felt more broken than whole and as his injuries were caused by friendly fire during a training session he found it hard to get through the fog. Then one of his therapy sessions introduced him to the concept of finding joy in his life. Bettina is a pastry chef at Hathaway House and it makes her happy to see other people smile. Victor had far too few smiles so she made it her mission to make him smile but then realised that she was too far attached considering he was leaving soon. Can he find a way forward, without leaving her behind?
This was a sweet tale of how kindness and trying to help someone feel Joy could lead to love and happiness. I loved that they had some good discussions about emotions and feelings although they weren't good at discussing love and their future together until it became a problem. A heartwarming story to make you smile. Easy to read, feel and understand.
