Vance Connelly just wanted to carry on the family tradition and join the Tampa Police Department but then he woke with the enhanced mark on his face and his dreams were crushed. Then by a stroke of luck, he met Talon Valdez and became a proud member of the FBI’s Human Enhanced Rescue Organization. Samuel “Angel” Piper wants to stop working undercover for the DEA and joins the HERO team as Vance’s regular human partner. When the team investigates rumours of a new drug using enhanced blood, the case’s mysterious connection to Sam threatens not just his life but Vance’s. Trust doesn’t come easy for Sam, but Vance is willing to fight to convince his partner that the strength of his heart might be the salvation they both need.
I enjoyed this story with the case and their relationship merging. The case was suitably dramatic and I loved that Sam could put on his Abgel persona like armour. We also found out a bit more about how the enhanced can be different from "normal" humans. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.
