This is a story about Diego and Shade, two fated mates who are reunited after years of separation. Diego lost his sight as a child and also lost his best friend, Shade, a "monster" who had saved his life. Years later, a magical pull guides him back to Shade. Shade, who lives in a Sanctuary to avoid the painful effects of light, is surprised when Diego walks back into his life, led by the very shadows that have been protecting him for years.
I enjoyed this novella which explores whether these two can find love and light in their unexpected reunion. The way that they were able to do things together using available shadow was clever and adding some technology was the icing on the cake. The inclusion of the other Sanctuary residents in the story was a nice touch. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
