This is the beginning of a story about Jake, a former Marine and aspiring documentary filmmaker, and his best friend, Roe Finlay, who is bisexual. Jake initially thought moving to LA was his life's turning point, but meeting Roe became the true defining moment. Despite his claims of being straight, Jake became deeply attached and emotionally dependent on Roe, who he says was his best friend, roommate, coworker, and "everything." The book ends on the abrupt note of heartbreak: Roe decides to commit to his girlfriend, suggesting that Jake's feelings for Roe were deeper than platonic friendship and that this event is the ultimate "break" that will force him to re-evaluate his life.
I loved this story with the two men who started off as partners on a project but became friends. I also enjoyed the brief appearance of Greer. This was told from Jake's point of view and the next book is from Roe's so I'm looking forward to that. I think that I struggled with just how slow this slow burn story was but that is mostly a me thing. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story.
