Review: Cam & AJ by Hinsel Meyer 3 of 5 stars

Cam & AJ

Cam & AJ by Hinsel Meyer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Cam, a sports agent, agrees to a bold plan cooked up by his best friend and star client, AJ—a multiple Super Bowl-winning quarterback. The scheme? Pretend they’re secretly dating to help Cam navigate his twentieth high school reunion with confidence and flair. What starts as a playful ruse quickly spirals into something more complicated, especially when Cam realizes just how easily his classmates believe the lie. As the lines between friendship, loyalty, and desire begin to blur, Cam is forced to confront the possibility that this fake relationship might be revealing a very real truth about his feelings for AJ.

I enjoyed this story although I did think that some of the interactions and situations became farcical. Cam’s insecurities about returning to his high school reunion reflect a universal fear: being judged by who we were, not who we’ve become. The fake relationship with AJ becomes a shield—but also a mirror. The story explored how we curate our identities to fit expectations, and how love can reveal the truth beneath the performance. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
