Review: The Sinner and the Saint by R.J. Scott 4 of 5 stars

The Sinner and the Saint

The Sinner and the Saint by R.J. Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a story about Ben Rockwell, a former military medic driven by guilt, and Nicholas Merrick, a British actor seeking refuge from a scandal, who find an unexpected, intense connection. Ben, hailed as a hero but feeling like a "sinner" due to past battlefield decisions, arrives in Ellery focused solely on establishing a trauma care unit. His life is disrupted when Nicholas moves in next door. Nicholas, painted as a "saintly bad boy" and "villain" by the media for seemingly cheating on his fiancée (a lie he maintained to protect his best friend), flees London to hide out in Tennessee. The two men instantly fall into lust and agree to a month of sex, despite their troubled emotional states. The core of the story is whether love is possible for the guilt-ridden "hero" and the unjustly accused "villain."

I really enjoyed this story with the two men who definitely had a chaotic start to their relationship which started with lust but sneakily changed to love. I enjoyed the drama around Nick's private life but it became a bit silly at the end with his determination to take all of the blame. I did think that Ben's PTSD was not covered enough as he should have been getting some sort of help. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
