This story is a forbidden, second-chance romance between Oliver, a determined omega, and Theodore "Frey", an older, powerful bear shifter and town mayor, who is also Oliver's father's best friend. Four years ago, an eighteen-year-old Oliver, convinced Frey was his fated mate, made a bold but naive attempt to seduce the much older man. Frey, acting as a "reasonable adult," rejected him to avoid issues with Oliver's protective sheriff father. Now, Oliver is back in their small town and has matured, but his feelings for Frey remain unchanged. Frey, who never told his best friend (Oliver's father) about that night, is haunted by his attraction to the grown-up Oliver. With Oliver now working at the town hall, Frey is struggling to resist him. The story sets up a tense romance where both men deal with their powerful, mutual attraction while dodging the watchful eyes of Oliver's father.
I enjoyed this story although my attention did drift sometimes. I did find the attitudes of some of the older characters a bit odd. Easy to read and understand. The writing was clear. This was an MM story with mature content set in the omegaverse with MPREG.
