My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Harrison, a wounded Marine haunted by the loss of his team and struggling with memory loss from a traumatic brain injury, finds solace only in his loyal support dog, Barney. Isolated and emotionally scarred, he begins a slow journey of healing at the Ellery Mountain Veterans Centre. Enter Toby, a gentle horticulturist whose new role involves helping veterans recover through gardening. Though their first meeting is rocky, an undeniable connection begins to grow between them. As Toby patiently earns Harrison’s trust, their bond deepens—offering hope, companionship, and the possibility of love.
I loved this tender, slow-burning romance about resilience, recovery, and the quiet power of compassion. It’s not about fixing what’s broken—it’s about learning to live and love through the cracks. I liked that love isn’t portrayed as a cure-all, but as a balm—something that doesn’t erase pain but makes it bearable and that Toby doesn’t try to fix Harrison; he simply stands beside him, offering warmth and understanding. This was full of passion, emotions and feelings that were easy to understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
