This is a story about JC, a wealthy veteran, and Adrian, his best friend and protector, who are being hunted by an unknown assassin. JC is struggling to recover from a traumatic brain injury sustained in a military ambush, which has left him feeling broken. Adrian, who has secretly loved JC for years, followed him to war and is now acting as his bodyguard. When threats against JC escalate to attempted murder, Adrian is forced to take JC and run. They find refuge with the Sanctuary Foundation, but their safety is compromised by the revelation of new secrets that threaten to destroy their relationship from within. The summary sets up a conflict where JC and Adrian must not only survive the external danger but also find out if their love can endure the weight of tragedy and hidden truths.
I loved this story as more about the threat to them came out and they understood who was behind it. It was a great mystery as they (and I as the reader) tried to work it all out. I loved their relationship and that they felt the same way but hadn't discussed it before. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
** Please note this book features characters from the author's action-adventure romantic suspense Sanctuary series, but you do not have to have read Sanctuary to enjoy this story.
