Review: The Loner by Riley Hart 4 of 5 stars

The Loner (The Vers Podcast #1)

The Loner by Riley Hart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Declan founded a queer podcast with his three best friends called The Vers and he is the one called The Loner because he is quieter than them and doesn't let himself get close to people as most of them will just let you down. He has infrequent no-strings-attached hookups although his favourite one Sebastian Cole was a popular movie star they met whenever he was in Santa Monica and needed an itch scratched. It was stopped when he got a serious boyfriend only to then later friend him in bed with another man, When he comes back to California and takes a break from acting he needs a friend and he decides that should be Declan. When Sebastian takes Declan out it feels like a date and surprisingly he likes it. Sebastian’s lonely, like Declan. The more they hang out, the more Declan realises he’ll never get enough of him. Declan will need to leave the past behind and finally allow himself to move forward with Sebastian to be able to call him his.

I loved this story with the hookups and then the hiatus before the friendship and then love. Declan was a product of his life and experiences and it was lovely to see him finally open himself up to love and having/needing someone. Sebastian was a determined guy and it was great to read about how he made sure that Declan was his friend they had more than just great sex. It was at times an emotional read. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.
