Shifter Robin escaped the laboratory he was in and fled to Salutem to find his college friend Marco. He stays with him as he recovers from the horrors of his capture, torture, and experimentation. The last person he expects to meet is his mate. Shifter and cafe owner Sam. Sam had hoped and dreamed he would one day meet that one person fate had decided was perfect for him and when that day arrived, he had to stop and wait. Robin had been hurt - damaged even - and Sam needed to give his mate the love and support he needed to recover from his trauma. But Robin carried a secret, one even he wasn’t aware of. Would it tear apart their fragile mating, or make their connection, their bond stronger for it? And, who else would be affected when the truth comes out?
This was suitably dramatic as they made some good progress on the mystery while also at the same time discovering one of the traitors and the extent of their knowledge of the town's inhabitants. Thankfully the relationship between Sam and Robin deepened and the core team realised the extent of the changes they would have to make. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
