The Living Night: Part One by Jack Conner
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
Did not finish - read 33% of the book.
Ruegger and Danielle are vampires who believe that humans and immortals should live in harmony. The are known as the Marshals as they kill and drink blood from those who abuse humans. There are a lot of different immortals who eat different things to make them very separate to vampires (some of which are a bit gross).
I couldn't finish this book as it was a bit more like a very serious and heavy science fiction novel and not very PNR (so don't fall into that trap).

Review: Loved by the Dragon Collection by Vivienne Savage 3 of 5 stars
Loved by the Dragon Collection by Vivienne Savage
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is a three book collection of books with some bonus extra bits of story.
In book one Chloe meets Saul (the Dragon) after she takes shelter in a cave to escape a thunderstorm while climbing. She slips and falls and Saul finds her injured in the cave.
In book two they travel to her home area and get into danger thanks to dragon politics.
In book three Chloe and her friend Marcy are on vacation in Mexico when they encounter the sexist owner of the resort Teo (who is Saul's best friend) and Marcy tries to change his mind. Sparks definitely fly.
I think the first two books could have been just one book as I felt the first book ended too abruptly as if they were one and chopped in half to fit a specified book length. They were ok and nice stories just a little rushed in places.

Review: Lion's Love by Kate Kent 4 of 5 stars
Lion's Love by Kate Kent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Sherry is a beautiful woman with a port wine stain on her face which has resulted in a life of ridicule and avoidance (even by her parents). After an overheard conversation she becomes interested in a dating website and is fixated by one of the men Adrian even when she finds out it is for shifters (and he is a Lion shifter). One of the bullies at her work sets up a fake profile for her and expresses an interest in Adrian for her. She starts an email conversation with Adrian and they make plans for her to come and visit to meet him.
Nice start to a series that has set the scene for the following books. The writing was good and to her normal excellent standard. If I had once criticism it would be that it seemed to go a bit fast in places and we could have done with a bit more detail about Adrian and his lion - how long had he been waiting, had he dated anyone, had he been involved in anything that allowed him to show his macho side? - after all he is a shifter.

Review: Saol Mates by Laurie Olerich 5 of 5 stars
Saol Mates by Laurie Olerich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was given this book in return for a review.
This is the 6th book in the series and you really have to read earlier books before reading this one. In this one we turn to Declan and Rori and their wish to finally complete their commitment to each other and be married. The wedding is all planned and everything is on track and then Dec and Sean find Af the Angel of Wrath in Central Park after he has been tortured by the demon Seth.
Af is taken home so that Uriel can heal him. Unfortunately it all goes downhill from there as Af comes round and everyone has to deal with his fury. There are lots of complications and twists, as well as delays to the wedding. Will the wedding happen and will Af be contained before his fury destroys them all?
This was her usual standard of clever writing and plot twists that leave us in suspense and wondering if Dec and Rori will survive let alone get married. Now I just want to know what happens next to them all and any of the other Primani that we have not yet met.

Review: Soul Mate by Anna Santos 4 of 5 stars
Soul Mate by Anna Santos
My rating:
Annabel is a hybrid who is working undercover to try to find a pureblood vampire to save her younger brother who is in a coma. She has a job to do and has no intention of letting anything put her off her goal. Share is a werewolf and the local sheriff who has given up any hope of finding his mate. When Annabel arrives in town he is stunned to realise she is his mate even though she either does not realise or is ignoring that he is her mate. Will they get together and will she save her brother? You'l have to read to find out.
The writing was very good and there were plenty of situations that kept you gripped. I did find the story a bit light on the more gritter elements that are more normal in the Paranormal part of PNR and felt if it lost the gritter sexual elements it would be suitable for young adults. I enjoyed it but it lacked something.

Review: How the Ghost Was Won by Erin Hayes 4 of 5 stars
How the Ghost Was Won by Erin Hayes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was given an ARC of this book in return for a review.
This book is a strange mixture of an old style western, a ghost story and a love story. That may read as something odd but it actually works.
Hattie is a detective for the Tremayne Psychic Specters Investigations Agency who is trying to find a missing US Marshall. Instead she finds a completely different US Marshall who is gorgeous. Will she, or even should she resist him, and will she actually complete her mission?
Interesting concept that I enjoyed. I can see that this could be a new series as Hattie travels solving ghostly mysteries.
Well written, with lots of surprises and interest up to the very end of the book. Tastefully done scenes that left everything to the imagination. Definitely worth a read.

Review: Darkness Calling by Laurie Olerich 5 of 5 stars
Darkness Calling by Laurie Olerich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This book started slow and I have to admit to getting more than a little irritated with the movements between present day and what happened in the past. As I got deeper into the story it started to make more sense and I understood the relevance of the parts of this story set in the past.
This is the story of Sean's and Aisling's own pasts and what events have shaped them to be what they are today. If Aisling annoyed you with her behaviour in book four, this will explain why she behaved that way. As always there is a dramatic conclusion that involves a damaged building (I say no more).
I enjoyed this book a great deal after I got my head around the timeline changes. The writing was clear and feelings, motivations and thoughts are easy to understand and feel. There are some fairly racy sex scenes in here so be aware. If it was possible I would give it a 4.5.

Review: The Witch, the Wolf and the Vampire, Book 1 by A.K. Michaels 5 of 5 stars
The Witch, the Wolf and the Vampire, Book 1 by A.K. Michaels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I received this book free in return for a review.
Peri is on the run from her parents. She left when she was 15 and although she is a witch she limits the magic she uses because it could be used to find her and she has never been taught so is very limited in what she can do. Now 21 she has been living on her wits on the streets and has recently been earning cash as a bounty hunter eating when she can.
When one of these goes wrong she is helped by a shifter and a vampire (Gabe and Josef) who are then captivated by her and have a need to make her theirs.
A great read containing some steamy scenes and had me captivated and wanting to know more.

Review: Keeper of the Peace by Jennifer Malone Wright 4 of 5 stars
Keeper of the Peace by Jennifer Malone Wright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the second in the Graveyard Guardians series. This one concentrates on Hannah and her first (and forever) love David Foster who broke her heart by leaving to join the police at the other side of the country and make something of himself over 10 years ago.
Hannah kills a Reaper and panics - the problem being the body is found, she is probably easy to link to the murder, and David is the detective investigating the murder. Will true love win, will Hannah be imprisoned for murder and will David find out what she is?
I nice story of love against all the circumstances that conspire to pull them apart. I enjoyed reading it but I did find some of the things happening a little far fetched. I also couldn't work out a few things that didn't make sense so maybe it was rushed. I could definitely see a next book involving Aiden and Liv, and we still need to know what happens to Hannah's job.

Review: Shadow Born by Jasmine Walt and Rebecca Hamilton 4 of 5 stars
Shadow Born by Jasmine Walt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Brooke is a Chicago based detective who has transferred to Salem to try and investigate the murder of her partner Tom who was also her fiance. She has a secret skill in her arsenal that she has kept secret - by touching things she can see what has happened there in the past. She hopes this skill will help her to find out what has happened. Unfortunately when she gets there, people either don't remember Tom or do everything they can to hide the truth. Just when she thought it was near impossible it got harder with several attempts on her life.
I enjoyed the book and as I got further into it I could feel myself getting deeper into the story. There is no denying the skill used in describing people, places and emotions. I did however find myself getting more than a little irritated with Brooke. She was so stubborn trying to do things herself and slow on the uptake at times. I find it hard to believe that someone who used to kill Vampires would find some of the concepts and characters she came across so hard to comprehend. I'm hoping she is less irritating next book in the series.

Review: Broken Souls by Laurie Olerich 5 of 5 stars
Broken Souls by Laurie Olerich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book in return for a fair review.
Rori Austin is a psychic who is disturbed by dreams that are often the same dream over and over. She tries desperately to write it all down when she wakes but struggles to remember any of it. This leaves her feeling like a failure as she feels she should be able to save those in her dreams. Declan Manning is a Primani warrior who meets Rori by chance and feels he has to find out what is happening and help her no matter what she says.
This is a powerful story of a battle between good and evil over a soul. It has love, romance, jealousy, good, evil, demons, angels - it pretty much has the lot. If you can get your head around the movements between times (it is explained in the story) then it is a very enjoyable story. The writing makes you clearly see and feel all the emotions involved in the story. I particularly enjoyed the gentle drift from a protector/victim relationship into something more involved. I'm sure it seemed more obvious to us as readers that it did to the characters themselves.
Definitely recommended - I actually read the last chapter 3 times because I enjoyed it so much. I had high hopes for it and was not disappointed.

Review: Saving Face by J.E. Taylor 5 of 5 stars
Saving Face by J.E. Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Special agent Steve Williams is bothered by a case - the Windwalker is a serial killer who seems to vanish into thin air and all that happens is he finds the victims not the perpetrator. He is guardian to 2 brothers (CJ and Tom Ryan) who are almost 18 which is getting challenging. Everything seems to disintegrate when the Windwalker takes Tom's girlfriend as his next victim and Tom is found holding her dead faceless body and covered with blood. Tom is charged with her murder and it seems almost everyone outside the family believes that he must have actually done it.
I really enjoyed this book. I've not read any of the other Steve Williams books but this did not appear to have made it difficult for me to read it. The author used good descriptive language and concentrated a lot on the emotions that were coming into play for all of them.

Falling for the Devil by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Harleen is a high school senior living with her Uncle Edgar who is her only surviving relative. As well as studying hard, she is also working to save for college and pay bills (she occasionally has the free time to see her boyfriend too) . Enter Andrew, a gorgeous guy with an Australian accent who just happens to be the devil. Edgar enters a deal with Andrew for unlimited wealth - the price is Harleen's soul.
Andrew manages to worm his way into Harleen's life and after a misunderstanding she finds herself in hell and marrying Andrew. Will she grow to love Andrew or will everything he has worked for fall in a heap and fail. I guess you need to read the book to find out.
I loved this book. Whilst I found the religious undertones a little irritating at times, in essence it was still a good story, well told. The descriptions of hell were good and I could see it in my head and imagine what it was like. The descriptions of the relationships were clear and easy to understand. Worth a read.

I'm Not Afraid of Wolves by Erin Hayes

I was given an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Christine escaped an abusive marriage and now performs as a mermaid in an aquarium spreading the word of conservation. She reluctantly agrees to go away for a girls weekend with her sister Sara where she meets the gorgeous park ranger Colton.
The relaxing break is sabotaged when the real reason for this break is revealed to Christine by Sara - she is running from a boyfriend called Chad who is convinced she is his mate. I won't add any more detail in order to spoil the book. ;-)
I really enjoyed this book. The descriptions of the people, emotions and situations meant I was gunning for Christine and Sara to be ok, and for Colton to be part of a happily ever after scenario.
I hadn't read the previous books but read this one fine on it's own. It does however persuade me to go back and read them. Definitely give this one a try.

This is an amazing story of how love can come to you in ways you could never expect. The main character Lara seems to be the only person who can see Mike who is a ghost. Even though she is engaged she falls in love with Mike as he does with her. A very original story which pulls at the heart strings and reminds us that when you have love you can do anything.
Heartily recommended.

Bitten: Nova: Blood Courtesans by Kim Faulks
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Nova and Jared were perfect together at high school but since things have been going downhill. She works all day to keep them both, he lies and cheats. Nova starts to wake up when she comes home to find a vampire trying to claim on a debt owed by Jared. No matter what she does she does not have the money to clear this debt so she goes to a vampire hangout Bitten to try to plead her case for more time to clear the debt. There she comes across Kol who tells her to go home and leave as it's dangerous for her to be there.
Jared comes up with a perfect solution to all there problems with Nova becoming a Blood Courtesan for 1 night telling the virgin Nova it is only giving blood. Things deteriorate from that point.
Whilst I thought the writing was ok I did struggle with this book and did not enjoy it compared to other books in the series. It seemed a bit disjointed and the ending came rather fast and was missing some of the description of what was happening and why.

Marked: Winter: Blood Courtesans by Gwen Knight
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Coming from a family of vampire slayers Winter is never going to become a Blood Courtesan until her best friend Tessa (who was a Blood Courtesan) makes some stupid choices and ends up in debt to a really nasty vampire who is threatening her. Winter wants to involve her family but Tessa begs her not to. So Tessa ends up becoming a Blood Courtesan to get the money to clear the debt quickly. Ethan Rune is a vampire who never uses Blood Courtesans but is at their charity auction purely for business reasons. Upon seeing Winter he is completely captivated and is the highest bidder of the evening for any woman in order to get Winter and spend time with her.
I absolutely LOVED this book. It was a great story of good versus evil with an underlying tale of great love. The author was great in her descriptions of the people and places, the situations, the thoughts and motivations and the emotions involved. Recommended - give this book a try.

Evie and Alicia are long standing best friends. Chad is Alicia's little brother and has always had a thing for Evie. Evie catches a glimpse of Chad changing at the local shifter bar and likes what she sees until she realises it is Chad who has certainly changed while away at college. Realising it is Alicia's little brother put the brakes on any intention she has to get near him, however Chad has other ideas. After a steamy sex session she tries her best to resist Chad and go back to normal life where she as a stalker to worry about.
The book contains sex scenes so you need to be aware of that. A well written book where the author paints a vivid picture of what sights, sounds, feelings and emotions are in play. Enjoyable read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A good book just a bit short (I don't think I read faster) :-) Nice plot of a rescue against the "rules" when a werewolf meets their mate being attacked, and the political fallout afterwards. I'd like to know what happens next so I'll definitely add the next book to my list of books to read.

21 Shades of Night: A Collection of Best Selling Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy by Rebecca Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This collection is an absolute bargain and a great way of getting into the genre and the authors.
This is a review of Rook (Allie's War Book One) by JC Andrijeski
This book is the start of an epic series that has it all - drama, intrigue, sexual chemistry (lots of it), and the fight between good and evil, right from wrong. It's starts in the modern world but it quickly moves to a more metaphysical world centring around an upcoming apocalypse. You might have seen reviews saying they didn't get on with this, but if you feel that way please read further so you get to understand the setting, the characters and the story better (they do take time to set up and explain) - I guarantee you will then become addicted to the entire series and not be able to put them down - I certainly couldn't.
I am now looking forward to reading the rest of this collection so I can discover more authors/series

Pleasant story in a great setting
This book is slow to build up the story and the relationship between Danny and Luci. I enjoyed the Native American setting for the story as well as the description of his entry into the SEALs. It was enjoyable but the slow build-up almost made me give up - I'm glad I didn't but just be aware of that.

TerraMates are a dating agency with a difference - women from earth are married for one year to an alien for a rather large fee. Ashlyn needs money quickly to help her family and Nathaniel needs a wife immediately so it solves both their problems. Will this be a marriage of convenience or something much more?
I absolutely loved this book. At first I thought it was a pirate story and was disappointed until I realised that it was so much more. Lisa has managed to show how complicated real life can be in a family whether they are wealthy or poor, and how true love can be found where you least expect to find it.Definitely recommended.

Nice story but I found it a little painful in places - the story struggled slightly when it came to Joe's character and his thoughts/feelings. There is definitely sex in this book - in fact that seems to what about 50% of the book contains. Overall still enjoyable.

Steamy well written book
A well written book which I can recommend. I loved the premise of the dating agency and the explanation of why the two guys needed the one mate between them to explain the reason for the two to one scenario.
The description of the relationships and the way they built up was good and very believable. The twist of the jealousy and the threat to her was well explained.
Definitely steamy so you need to be aware of that. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

This is the third book in the series but I think it would be read stand alone. In this book a pregnant Molly and boyfriend Asa are living and working as normal humans when her best friend is kidnapped. This book follows the story of how they find her and get her free. There are some twists and turns, and some tastefully done sex scenes. Overall a very enjoyable read which might start you on a journey to read the rest of the series.

Killing by Captivation by Heather C. Myers

Mandy works in a coffee bar. Paul is a demon who wants to become a human. Paul is given the important job of finding the one woman who is destined to marry Satan - in return for that he gets to be a mortal human. Problem is, when he meets Mandy (who is that woman) he falls in love with her. This book is about that and all that happens.
I enjoyed reading the story and could sense the emotions they must have been feeling. I felt the differences between demons, angels and the fallen could have been explored a little more. I also struggled with the concept that Satan was just another demon and that he could be held to the same principles that ordinary demons could.

Worth reading but beware you might not be able to stop when you start.

Death in Neverland by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is a retelling of Peter Pan for adults. Remy Cutler has died but been sent back. It changes her outlook on life which means that when she has to enter into an arranged marriage she decides to avoid it at all costs. As part of this she almost dies again and ends up in Neverland. This book traces that journey and the various obstacles she has to cross. It is the first in a three part series so ends in a cliffhanger.
I enjoyed the style of writing and the clear descriptions of thoughts/feelings/happenings. However I really struggled with the story and the retelling of Peter Pan. Twice I almost gave in but I did manage to get to the end. I don't think I'll be reading the next two just because I didn't get on with the story.

Sam is an Imp (Demon) who currently lives on earth in a body of a human. She loves to cause trouble, drink beer and vodka (only nice vodka), eat lots of nice food, be by the pool in her garden, or lusting after her sexy neighbour. She also needs to stay under the radar of the angels so she isn't destroyed or sent back.
The book is the first in the series so introduces the characters and how they meet each other. I contains some humour and some sex scenes.
Interesting tale merging the worlds of angels, demons, werewolves, and humans. Well written book that I enjoyed.

This is a novella set after the novel The Halcyon Rebirth.
In this story Gabriel is investigating a mysterious haunting affecting a British Lord's country home where staff members have been found dead. Gabriel has to look to see if he can find the source and neutralise the threat.
Questions are - will he find the source of the deaths before anyone else dies, will he be able to neutralise the threat and will he get through an adventure without going to the pub?
Great story that reminded me of all of the things I loved about Halcyon Rebirth.

Sam is a good fae or fairy who nudges or suggests things to humans so that good things happen in their life. She also has a fascination with humans doing sexual acts and loves watching whenever she can.
When helping a human called Maya she is shocked to find out that the person with her called Zeph can not only see her but talk to her. She is captivated by him and how gorgeous he looks. She really wants to become human to be with Zeph and experience sex with him.
Sam's friend Alex suggests she use her once a year Christmas Wish to become human and spend a day with Zeph. The rest of the book is about what happens when her wish comes true and why Zeph can see her.
This is a captivating love story which brings together 2 people from different parts of the non-human world. I loved the descriptions of the people and explanations of their feelings and the consequences of them. Definitely a great story.

Shay has visions and can talk to ghosts. She is trying to help out a ghost (Gemma) who is the mother of Tyler who is a demon hunter.Tyler wants to find out what the deal is and then get out of town and carry on with his life. After a very shaky start where both Shay and Tyler fight their physical attraction by trying to hate each other, they give into that attraction even though both are terrified of it turning into something much deeper. Then demons start popping up and trying to attack Shay (just as well there is a demon hunter there). How will it work out? Well you'll have to read the book to find out.

My Wolf and Me by India R. Adams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Four year old Marlena lives a happy life playing make believe in the nearby woods. One day, knowing no fear in her innocence, she meets and befriends a pair of wolves. The wolves disappear but return with a recently born pup Marlena names Romy. After separate tragedies the parents die and Marlena takes Romy home (and eventually her parents accept him as part of the family).
The book carefully covers the process of growing up and discovering new knowledge. We see examples of love and friendship, which take a new twist when Romy changes into a man called Sebastian. Just when life seems to be going well they are then captured by hunters and we live through the physical and mental trials that they have to go through.
A good style of writing that made me laugh in some places but also made me cry in others.

Gabriel Jones tries to make a living as an author/journalist. Out of the blue he is offered the chance to write an article about the occult in rural Britain (something he is incredibly sceptical about). The story follows his journey researching and writing the article and the events that unfold which build up to dramatic final stage. As part of that journey Gabriel is going to have to accept that some things are not the rubbish he thought they were.
I nice story, well written which I increasingly enjoyed as I got further into the story (I think I read faster as I got more into the story too). I do worry about Gabriel's health though as quite a lot of the story seems to happen either in a pub or involve drinking alcohol elsewhere!
If you are into this genre give it a try. I just need to know when the next one is due out.

Review: Death in Neverland by Heather C. Myers 3 of 5 stars
