Lex, grappling with the reality of his worsening blindness, retreats to a remote cabin in Maine to confront his uncertain future. Meanwhile, Gideon, the caretaker of the cabin, is a man scarred by his own past and content with his solitary life. Despite their initial differences and mutual desire for isolation, Gideon finds himself drawn to Lex's vulnerability, and Lex is challenged by Gideon's resilience. As the two men navigate their struggles, they form a connection that neither expected. Gideon is determined to help Lex rediscover himself and refuses to let him give up, even as their emotional walls begin to crumble. Together, they face their fears, past pain, and the possibility of healing through love.
I loved this story of the two men brought together by proximity as Lex tried to run away and cope with the changes in his life. The blindness was sensitively handled and the medical facts were given enough depth and gravitas. I loved the stubborn and determined Lex and the way that Gideon tried to help while not suffocating him (most of the time). Huge amounts of emotions and feelings in this story which may bring you to tears at times. This was an MM story with mature content.
