Former Special Forces soldier Cruz de la Vega, now working for an underground vigilante group, is tasked with protecting gay rights activist Elliot Wittier after a violent attack. Cruz anticipates it to be just another job, but he quickly becomes intrigued by Elliot, who is the head of a successful investment firm and a prominent foundation. Elliot, struggling to maintain control after the attack, finds solace in Cruz's company at a Halloween benefit. Their connection deepens beyond a single night, and they must navigate the challenges of their pasts and the present threat to see if their bond can truly last a lifetime.
I enjoyed this novella as Cruz met and fell for Elliot who was in a far more complicated situation than it first appeared. I loved the twist at the end as to who was behind the threats and why was unexpected. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
